More adventures in pug-sitting...

While my in-law's are livin' it up in Hawaii, I am taking care of their pup Chloe and making sure their cable TV gets used (Food Network!!!)!
It's like a mini vacation from my house, and the kids get to play in a big back yard. I'm also close to stores (not that I can buy anything) and they have a jacuzzi (which I will no doubt be using).

Since we don't have any extra money to spend on a vacation, I will make the most of this. Maybe we can take the Wall-E tent and eat smores after the sun goes down...

We may also attempt swim lessons, although it'll be interesting to see how that goes. I'll be in the water with Remy the same time Mazzy is in the water with a teacher. One of my favorite parts of swim lessons is all the photos I get to snap and so I'm thinking there will be no photos or I will sign them up for different times, which would also be kind of a pain. But since my parents didn't sign me up for swim lessons* (even after falling into a jacuzzi) I want to make sure my kids can swim. I can swim but not great.

*I don't mean to tattle on my mom and dad but out of 3 daughters, I am the one who doesn't swim too well. We are talkin' nose plugs people. And who wants to be a 30 year old at the pool with nose plugs?

Knitting again.

It's been a while since I've mentioned anything about my adventures in knitting. I'm still very much considered a beginner and my projects are still in the "easy" category. I started a scarf a few months ago and had a million things get in the way of finishing it. I have sinced worked on it here and there and I am hoping it gets finished by the end of the month*. So far I've named this project the Lava Scarf due to it's color. It's the first time I've knitted a scarf using wool yarn and I think I like it. It's a little stretchy. The color is also lovely and it'll be hard to choose whether to keep it all to myself or gift it.

I also have the baby leg warmers to attend to. I somehow ended up with extra stitches. That is pretty much why it has been sitting all alone in a dark corner of my side of the closet. I guess I should get that project out too and work on it.

*Knitting with small children around or near the general vicinity will lead to not knitting. Not knitting will lead to very little progress on projects :(

Sticks that light up...

Seriously I cannot see why anyone would spend their hard earned cash on fireworks but that's just my opinion. As a child I was captivated by sparklers and the smokey flashes of light in front of my face but as an adult, I just don't get it. For as many years as my first born has been on this Earth, I have not spent a dime on fireworks. That is until this year.

I didn't want him complaining about how boring we were so I caved this year. We bought two packs of sparklers and some other thingamajig. Pow! 17 dollars later, we headed back to the in-law's. We were pug sitting again.

I do enjoy the big fireworks (from a distance) and at a decent hour. I remember a trip to Pismo when I was 18 with a group of girlfriends and we had a blast hanging out on the beach while the fireworks lit up the ocean. It was beautiful. I also remember evenings on Bass Lake while boats paraded across the water and the reflection of light felt almost like you were staring into space. And last night at the Death Cab for Cutie show, they ended their set with amazing fireworks. I appreciate a good light show, I just don't like having any and everybody getting their hands on things that light up, especially in this town. Not to mention, we have such poor air quality that I wouldn't be against a ban. Just sayin'.

I did find that sparklers can make for some fun photos. So I snapped a few.
Enjoy!
